Week of June 26 - July 2

Event Date:
June 23, 2011 - 10:15am

 You have come from afar
and waited long and are wearied:
Let us sit side by side
sharing the same bread drawn from the same source
to quiet the same hunger that makes us weak.
Then standing together
let us share the same spirit, the same thoughts
that once again draw us together in friendship and unity and peace.

Week of June 5-11

Event Date:
June 5, 2011 - 10:15am

O God of grace and truth,
we pray for your church when we are gathered in worship,
and we pray for your church when we are alone, by ourselves.
Help us always be caring, courageous and compassionate,
never giving in to fear or indifference.
May we always be a safe harbor when the winds of the world are high,
threatening to overwhelm us or others;
and may we be a strong ship in which to sail out of the harbor,
to take on the storms of life.

May 29, 2011 - 10:15am

Good and gracious God, today I pray specifically for First Congregational UCC.
I pray for all the people of the church – those who exercise leadership, those who participate in many and various ways, those who are not here very often, and those who have visited us looking for a new church home. Give each of us a strong sense of faith in your presence and love with us. Help us participate in this church in ways that are faithful to you, and also in ways that increase the faith and service of all the church’s people.

Television Commercial

Event Date:
May 24, 2011 - 10:15am

First Congregational UCC worked with Fox 47 to produce a television commercial that will be played on a new program called “Our Lives.” Our Lives is already the name of a magazine about gay and lesbian people and lifestyles in the Madison area.  There have been stories about Eldonna Hazen, Jeanne Marshall and her AIDS bike ride fund-raising experiences, and our members Josh Feyen and Jay Edgar were even on the front cover and the subjects of a featured article. Fox 47 has teamed up with Editor Patrick Farabaugh to produce a half-hour television show based on the kinds of stories that the magazine already carries. Representative Tammy Baldwin will be interviewed in one of the episodes.

Week of May 22-28

Event Date:
May 22, 2011 - 10:15am

God, there are some of us praying this prayer that haven’t experienced the fullness of your love. You say, “As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” Holy Spirit, break down walls right now and soften hearts. Fill us all with the fullness of your love. Your love is self-sacrificing and healing. We receive that love right now. Let it burn into our hearts and purge them of selfishness and hatred. In Christ, we are made new right now. Thank you, Jesus. We love you. Amen.
