PORTRAITS of JUSTICE Summer Mural Camp

Hear from and see the work of First Cong youth artists who participated in the Summer Mural Camp, Portraits of Justice. First Congregational’s own Alyssa Lovely and Henry Flogel, both gifted young artists, led participating 1st - 6th graders. This video exhibit is the culmination of their research, expressions, skills, and efforts.

First Cong artists, Alyssa Lovely and Henry Flogel have been remotely guiding a crew of 12 young artists as they paint individual Portraits of Justice for the Summer Mural Camp. Each artist was assigned an individual who has worked or is working for justice, to research and paint. The list of Justice People include historic and contemporary folks such as: Malala Yousafzai, Cesar Chavez, Sonia Sotomayer, Alex Plank, Justice Thurgood Marshall, Senator Tammy Duckworth, as well as others. Through Zoom virtual gatherings, young painters were introduced to the ‘grid system’ of painting, instructed on value, involving shading and contrast, layering, and brush techniques and care. Painters are also asked to share learned information about their portrait subject. Watch for information about an exhibition of their work!
