What a great celebration...

First Congregational celebrated 20 years of being an Open & Affirming congregation Sunday, October 14. The weekend began with a workshop on Saturday afternoon featuring Rev. Dr. Carolyn Pressler, Professor of Biblical Interpretation from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities.  About 40 people took advantage of the workshop, with six outside congregations being represented.  Carolyn’s knowledge of the Older Testament helped people look at texts through different lenses.

On Sunday we entered a Sanctuary filled with color.  Carolyn Pressler was our guest preacher and again reminded us that welcoming the LGBTQ community “does matter.” As of a vote on October 10, there are 1047 ONA congregations in the UCC and First Congregational was the 76th church to become ONA in the UCC and the second in Wisconsin. Truly reason to celebrate.

We are grateful to the committee that planned the weekend events and those who participated in the events and Sunday worship. The ONA planning committee consisted of Sue Jones, Rich Fluetchling, Jeanne Marshall, Petrovnia McIntosh, Terry Doll, Jenn Morsch, Melinda Certain and Eldonna Hazen.  Thanks to Chuck Erickson and Cynthia Bachhuber for assisting in worship on Sunday. Many thanks to Carolyn Pressler, who reminded us of the importance of being ONA and taking the time to celebrate!
