Sometimes it can be helpful to think of our lives as spiritual pilgrimages or journeys, and to think of the events of our lives as possible sources of learning and growth on our journeys. We have control over some parts of our journey, other parts are completely beyond our control, and still other parts a mixture of what happens to us and what we decide to do or think or feel. For a Christian, Lent can also be a journey.

So now while things are quiet
as I ride along the trail
I can come to You and visit
and give thanks that You prevail.
Now, most of us just do our work
each day as it comes past
Without our givin' thanks to You,
the One who makes it last.

So thanks we give with humble hearts
for all Your blessed Grace
For watchin' o'er us while we sleep
and while we work this place.
And Lord this life You've given me
is all that I could ask,
And for Your watchin' over me,
pray I'm equal to the task.

The Congregational Meeting

The meeting opened with a report from our Reach and Renew campaign coordinator Annette Ellstrom, who explained the distribution of pledges to our $2 million capital campaign. Foundation President Fred Wileman followed, and confirmed the Foundation's pledge of $250 thousand to the campaign, and reported the Foundation's willingness to provide up to $400 thousand as a line of credit.

O God of grace and truth,

we pray for your church when we are gathered in worship,

and we pray for your church when we are alone, by ourselves.

Help us always be caring, courageous and compassionate,

never giving in to fear and indifference.

Help us provide safety and support for those who are hurting,

those who are struggling with hard questions and deep wounds.

Help us also reach out with particular and specific compassion,

and work to right the wrongs of life and bring justice to your world.

 

O Jesus Christ, you who have given yourself for humankind on the cross,

pour out your Holy Spirit on your church.

Inspire us by your presence among us.

Raise us up to do your work in the world.

Meld our sometimes cacophonous voices into a beautiful symphony of grace,

that we may make peace among people,

bring hope where there is despair,

and proclaim your salvation to the ends of the earth.

 

Give us courage to live our faith every day.

Renew us each time we gather as your people.

We pray in Jesus’ name.      Amen.

Gracious and merciful God, be with me now as I open my heart to you in prayer. Cast out my fear, and open the doors to your Realm, that I may come to you with an open heart and open arms, receiving the fullness of blessing from your generous hands, and offering all I think, say and do for your service.

Help me show love for my neighbors near and far – neighbors across the room, down the street, and around the world.  Help me look for ways to make that love real and specific. Do not let me make excuses for ignoring hard-to-like neighbors wherever they are, for they are beloved in your eyes, just as I am.

In all things, move me toward that gracious and outgoing love which is exemplified in the life and teaching, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  I pray in his name.  Amen.

Winter Weather Cancellation Policy

In the past we have chosen to cancel Sunday School and worship because of a blizzard, and it could easily happen again!
