Dementia Friendly Training

Event Date:
Wednesday, May 30, 2018 - 12:00pm - Sunday, June 10, 2018 - 12:30pm
In an ever vigilant quest to be an extravagantly welcoming community, the Accessibility Committee has invited a representative from the Aging & Disability Resource Center of Dane County (ADRC) to offer two training sessions to help First Congregational Church become a Dementia Friendly Location. The sessions are open to all, especially those who serve as greeters and ushers.

Building a dementia friendly community takes time and dedication. Organizations who go through the training are given a decal to mark their space as Dementia Friendly and are included on a public list of welcoming sites.

The Dementia Care Specialist works with communities in Dane County to raise awareness about people with dementia and their needs. Libraries, city services, businesses, churches, and other organizations form coalitions to address the issues and learn better ways to serve those with dementia and their families. Improved communication helps increase compassion and promote involvement in the program. Check out the ADRC website to learn more about this project, and see what other organizations have participated in the training sessions: http://daneadrc.org/dementia_friendly.aspx

A light lunch will be served preceding both training sessions. To assist with planning, please sign up in the back of the Sanctuary or contact Jeff Rabe at jrabe@firstcongmadison.org
