Ask the Earth and It Will Teach You

Rev. Robin Raudabough was the keynote speaker for the 2018 Annual Meeting of the SW Wisconsin Association of the United Church of Christ at Salem UCC in Verona this past Saturday. For those of you not familiar with our denominational structure, First Congregational is part of the SW Association, which is one of four Associations in the Wisconsin Conference. Beyond that, our Conference is part of General Synod - the national UCC body.

Robin is a farmer and pastor. She has degrees in agriculture and divinity and is intentional about being connected to the earth. She sees the big picture and the earthy details. Her topic on Saturday was "Cycles and Seasons: : Finding the holy in all of life." Robin inspired great conversation around the intersections of farming, caring for the earth, ministry, and everyday life.

Each year we meet as an Association to conduct business we need to do at this level, such as voting on an Association budget and nominations to various committees, as well as hearing reports about how the Association is available to help local churches in ministry. But, most of our day is spent in some relevant topic for education.

First Cong had great representation at the meeting with 15 members present! In addition to worship, workshops were offered that covered solar power and organic gardening as ministry, food, faith, and farming networking information, conversation with Rev. Raudabough, and a discussion on dealing with controversial issues in your church.
