Neighbors in Need UCC Special Mission Offering

Event Date:
Sunday, October 1, 2017 - 10:00am - 11:00am
We are a people of action and justice. Sunday, September 17th, we worked together to fill flood buckets and pack hygiene kits to help those in need of basic supplies in regions suffering the devastating effects of Hurricanes Irma and Harvey; buckets to fill the stores to prepare for storms yet to come. Next week, we will come together to lift up a UCC special mission offering called Neighbors in Need. The theme is of this year's offering is "Protect the Sacred: In a Just World, Clean Water is Life." These two opportunities lead me to reflect on the power of water: to give life, and to take it; to clean, and to cause irreparable damage; a resource to protect, a right, something maybe too easily taken for granted here.

Neighbors in Need makes available annual grants for justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects led by UCC congregations and organizations throughout the U.S. - justice initiatives like the work done to support the Standing Rock Sioux in standing up to big business and fighting to protect their water and their treaty rights.

Neighbors in Need allows us to strengthen and support the Witness and Justice ministries of the UCC church and the UCC Council of American Indian Ministries, which supports 22 congregations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. Neighbors in Need offers us a way to transform lives and communities by supporting other's work of faith and action. Please plan to give generously for this special offering, considering the impact you can have on our neighbors in need.
