Upcoming Educational Opportunities

I love learning - maybe even more now than I did when I was officially enrolled in school! Participating in Adult Education opportunities at First Cong is one way we continue to learn spiritually as we engage our head, heart and hands. It is also a time to meet some great people on this path with us and learn more about how we can serve in the community. It takes intention and effort to make space in our calendars for these classes, but the investment is worth it! We have a great fall line-up of options. Please take the time to consider attending one of more of these upcoming classes. ~Ann Beaty

A Brisk Walk through the Old Testament
Wednesdays: October 5, 12, 19, 26 & November 2, 9, 16 from 7:00-8:00pm
Taught by Jeff Rabe, this is an opportunity for adults to experience what our confirmands learn about the Old Testament. It's a low-key adventure covering the basics of the relationship between God and God's people through our early history. The class is intended for adults who want to freshen up on the Old Testament, or are eager to discover the story for the first time. Sign up through the church office or at the back in the back of the Sanctuary by September 25.

Embracing Christianity Series - Embracing Emergence
Sundays: October 9, 16, 23, 30 from 8:45-9:30am
Using a brief video introduction and study guide, Phyllis Tickle leads this study in examining the changing face of Christianity and culture. Looking over two thousand years of Western history, this study explores what is emerging now? What are the implications of what Tickle calls this "Great Emergence" both culturally and spiritually? What are the key questions and issues? Where might we be headed next? Led by Eldonna Hazen, Diana Shaw, Ann Beaty

A small group experience of spiritual formation using the Beatitudes as a way to explore the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 5. These challenging teachings from the Sermon on the Mount provide a window through which we will explore the kingdom of God - a view revealed through the eyes and words of Christ. This is a 9 week study, but we will do 3 in the fall and 6 in the winter/spring 2017. Led by Ann Beaty & Julie Kramer

More opportunities are still in the planning stages so watch the Tower for details. Women's Book Study will be held on Saturdays, October 8, 22, November 5, 19 from 8:00-9:30am. Advent Sermon Conversation will be held on Sundays, December 11 & 18 following worship.
