Seeing Your Building as Ministry

On Saturday, April 6, 2013, First Congregational hosted a workshop titled Seeing Your Building as Ministry. Consultant Susan Eaton Mendenhall led a seminar educating us about the influence of our building on human behavior, spiritual formation, community building and hospitality. She discussed first impressions, accessibility and the qualities related to physical and emotional safety. At that point in time, First Congregational was considering the ways Reach and Renew funds could be used for our home, health, and hospitality. We are now down the road three years from that presentation, but know the building is a vital part of First Cong's ministry in the community, as we ponder decisions related to the building.
If you have not already attended one of the Congregational Conversations, I encourage you to attend the conversation scheduled for Thursday, March 17 at 7:00pm in the Chapel. Our 86 year old building is both beautiful and challenging, as are our other properties, but they are a vital part of our ministry! Please take the opportunity to listen and share your thoughts about how we can use resources in the best way to maintain, and enhance our ministry. Three powerpoint presentations can be accessed here or on the church website. They include the current presentation being used at each of the congregational conversations, the report of the space utilization committee, and the original presentation to allocate Reach and Renew funds.
