Mariposa & the Saint: From Solitary Confinement, A Play Through Letters

Event Date:
Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 7:00pm - 8:00pm
Mariposa and the Saint, by Julia Steele Allen, an award-winning playwright and activist, brings to life the true story of a woman locked in solitary confinement for nearly three years, in her own words. The New Yorker proclaimed: "The play presents solitary confinement as a particularly egregious failure on the part of the prison system to approach prisoners-not just the good and the innocent but also the guilty and the bad-as complete human beings."
There is no admission fee, but donations to defray costs are encouraged. The play lasts for 45 minutes, followed by a 45 minute dialogue with the audience, including some Wisconsinites who have spent time in solitary confinement. The Madison performances of Mariposa & the Saint is presented with support from Kathie Rasmussen Women's Theatre (KRASS) and The Prison Ministry Project.
