Celebrating 175 Years....

Susan Shands' successful completion of her Ecclesiastical Council on November 7 prompted reflections on several intersections of church and community history. The Shands family has deep and sustained connections at First Congregational; going back three generations to the 1930s when Elizabeth Henry Shands and Ruebush G. Shands joined our church.  Their granddaughter is now authorized for ordination pending an approved call, and serves as a chaplain at Agrace HospiceCare. In the late 1970s, First Congregational members Fred and Wendy Coleman were leaders in the movement that ultimately established hospice care in Dane County. In the 1980's our house at 303 Lathrop was an early home for the organization now known as Agrace.
