Celebrating 175 Years....

Our church has been singing last Sunday's closing hymn text, "For All the Saints," for more than 125 years. Pastor Charles Richards wrote "Our Saints - A Memorial" in 1890. About those early First Congregational saints, Richards wrote: "Their faces live again before us in retrospect, and their familiar voices seem to echo back our songs of thanksgiving for God's blessing in the past. Not very far away do they seem, but still part of our company: and so they are, for the real church overlaps both worlds, and includes, as Wordsworth says, "the noble living and the noble dead." We thank God for them, singing, "For all the saints, who from their labors rest, Who thee by faith before the world confest, Thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia!"
