Two Great Opportunities for our Community

We are excited to have a well-regarded, award winning musician come to First Congo to play for us! Bobby Jo Valentine performs his “hopeful folk/pop music” in an intimate, acoustic performance at 7:00pm on May 13.  Let’s give Bobby Jo a real First Congo welcome by setting aside this evening as an opportunity to be together in fellowship and enjoy some excellent songwriting and music that has received glowing reviews in the music industry.

“If Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson, and Regina Spektor were to combine forces, you would have Bobby Jo Valentine. Soulful and uplifting, soothing and calming, Valentine’s music is the perfect blend of indie and modern pop/rock. Oftentimes it is quite difficult to switch from genre to genre or to switch styles and tones, but Bobby Jo Valentine does so with ease. His voice is passionate and beautiful, using his soothing ways to demonstrate his musicality and versatility. His musicality separates himself from any other artist out there presently, and “A Place To Belong” is the proof.” Alexa Spieler, A-List Music

Please spread the word by inviting your friends and neighbors to come along to enjoy this free concert. Free will donations will be accepted at the door. More information about Bobby Jo and his music can be found at bobbyjovalentine.com.

Madison-area Urban Ministry has been meeting with members of the Young, Gifted and Black Coalition around issues of equity, jail, crimes of poverty, and economic justice. First Congregational is happy to provide the space for members of the faith community to come and hear from the Coalition about their work, their demands and their vision for our community and neighborhoods. We are co-hosting this event with some other congregations to give our members the chance to listen to the Young, Gifted and Black Coalition. Our goal is to be active listeners and not debaters. Please join us Monday, May 11th at 7:00pm to hear the experiences that could help us understand and act on our core belief of justice for ALL of God’s children.
