JOIN THE CIRCLE! Summer Children's Musical

In light of recent events across our country, it seemed apropos for a group of children to gather in a circle and sing about God’s love and the need to make sure that circle is wide enough to include everyone.

Join The Circle was First Cong’s eighth annual Summer Children’s Musical. In it, the children, led by a hoop-skirted teacher named Perpetua, played by First Cong’s own Mari McCarty, presented a series of songs about God’s never-ending love for all. Perpetua explained to the children that God loves us just the way we are, even if there are a few things about us that may seem odd to others. She also shared the message that “God is pretty complex, and different people have different ideas of who God is, and what to believe about God. Sometimes we forget the love and we wind up hurting other people while trying to defend what WE believe.” And that, “Different people see God differently. It’s not wrong, it’s just different. The important thing is to remember that God loves us and wants us to respect each other and share that love. We don’t have to always agree with each other on the little stuff, but if we work together, we can do some pretty big things for God.”

In addition to Mari, the CAST included: Nyla Benton, Nana-Kofi Brewoo, Noah Hadfield, Vivi Hadfield, Minna Ketcham, Katie Shaw, Sophie Shaw, Norah Taft, James Tishler, Mary Tishler, Angel Vasquez, Faith Vasquez, Merlie Veit, and the Adult Choir. The CREW, which created the set, were: Lila Hadfield, Max Veit, Sean Hadfield and Paul Lorentz. Janet Pugh created Perpetua’s colorful hoop skirt. The hula hoops used for the set will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club.
