By loving you more, you love the person you are caring for more.

While caring for a loved one often brings rewards, it is also normal for it to have its unique challenges. Several months ago, we began a “Caregiver Support” group here at First Congregational. We agreed that some of our meetings would be to gather for supportive conversation and that some would be for educational programming with experts in the field.

At our next meeting on Sunday, July 26 from 11:15am - 12:30pm, Joy Schmidt will speak to us about some of the issues faced by those who are caregivers. Joy is the “Community Education Specialist” for the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin. Joy has many years of experience in the field of care giving. While her professional work has focused around helping families facing dementia, her presentation will apply to care giving of all kinds.

Topics to be discussed will include:

· Communication tips and strategies if you are a caregiver

· Understanding behavioral and personality changes

· Taking care of yourself as a caregiver

· Resources that ADAW offers to help with these issues

Our program time will include lunch. Donations will be accepted to help offset the cost of the food. No reservations are necessary. For more information, or to add your name to our list as interested in future meetings, please contact Ann: abeaty@firstcongmadison.org
