What WAS in the box?

During the season of Advent, the children, and Congregation, had four weeks to guess what symbol of God’s love was in a box. The box had an ornament for each child.  This year’s box contained H2O molecules.

WATER “For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is  given … and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. “

The prophet Isaiah used these names for Jesus long before he was even born in that manger in Bethlehem. Many more names have been used to describe Jesus: Immanuel, Savior, Healer, Deliverer. Jesus had many names because he was so many things to so many people.

Water, like Jesus, may seem simple from the start, but, like Jesus, it comes to us in many different forms: liquid, ice, snowflakes, steam, vapor. The properties of the water molecule give it the ability to do amazing things, like supporting the weight of a tiny water bug, or a huge ocean liner. Its life-giving properties can support a microscopic organism or reach to the thirsty heights of a towering tree. Water’s power can be displayed in the gentle laughter of a child jumping through a sprinkler on a warm summer day, or be harnessed to provide power for millions of people.

Like Jesus, water is a Sustainer of Life. And like Jesus, it is the medium through which the Light reveals the symbol of the Promise.
