Women's Book Study

Event Date:
Saturday, October 12, 2013 - 8:00am - Saturday, November 23, 2013 - 9:30am

Women! Mark your calendars now to attend a morning of coffee (or juice), treats, and great conversation after reading Kindred, by Octavia E. Butler, a work of science fiction. Dana, a modern black woman, is celebrating her twenty-sixth birthday with her new husband when she is snatched abruptly from her home in California and transported to the antebellum South. Rufus, the white son of a plantation owner, is drowning, and Dana has been summoned to save him. Dana is drawn back repeatedly through time to the slave quarters, and each time the stay grows longer, more arduous, and more dangerous until it is uncertain whether or not Dana's life will end, long before it has a chance to begin.

The class will meet on four Saturday mornings October 12, 26 and November 9, 23, from 8:00-9:30 am in the Student Lounge and will be facilitated by Eldonna Hazen. Books are available in the office for $12. Please let Eldonna know if you plan to attend.
