New Interim Conference Minister

At the Annual Meeting of the Conference it was announced that the Rev. Michael Obenauer will be our Interim Conference Minister, beginning his ministry among us August 15.  This is necessary due to the retirement of Rev. David Moyer. Michael has a wealth of experience and skills that are uniquely suited to the needs of our Conference at this time. He also brings a deep, personal faith in God's continuing work in the world, a spirit of hope and joy, and a great love for the church of Jesus Christ.

Michael and Bobbie Obenauer

Born and raised in South Dakota, Michael is a graduate of South Dakota State University, and United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities -- a classmate of one of our pastors in Wausau, Wayne Drueck. Ordained in the UCC thirty-six years ago, he served churches in the Midwest (Kansas, Minnesota, Illinois) for twenty-five years before becoming an Associate Conference Minister of the Montana-Northern Wyoming Conference, serving there nine years. Currently Michael is the Interim Senior Minister of Manhattan Beach Community Church (UCC) in Southern California, a ministry he is completing this month.

Michael has participated in the life of the wider church as a member of the Board of Directors of the Office for General Ministries, the corporate board of United Church Board for Homeland Ministries, a God Is Still Speaking Trainer, and General Synod Delegate.

Michael brings to us his experience as a pastor of small and large churches, as well as his experience on the Conference staff in Montana. While on that staff Michael worked with the Conference to navigate through a change in Conference Minister three times -- an experience that will help us in our transition here.

He is eager to visit the churches in the conference and meet the pastors and lay leaders.

Michael's spouse, Bobbie, is a retired librarian, with children (and grandchildren too) in Chicago and Wyoming. "The Beagles" (their two dogs), they say, allow Michael and Bobbie to share their home with them. Together Bobbie and Michael enjoy travel, music, drama, and musical theater.
