The Seductive Power of Money

Event Date:
Sunday, April 28, 2013 - 9:00am - 10:00am

Being faithful to the Gospel in a world of wealth is challenging. The Great Recession and economic changes have presented challenges to the faith values that guide our lives. Come for a time of reflection and discussion on the powerful intersection of the place of money and faith. The class will be led by Rev. John Tyler. We will meet 9:00-9:50am April 28 in the Fellowship Room. John is using some information from Winner-Take All Politics by Jacob Hacker and Paul Pierson. It is not necessary to read the book, but you might find it an interesting read. The first meeting centered on the challenge of the growing in-equality of wealth. April 14 focused on the seductive power of money. April 28, we will look at Charles Murray's book Coming Apart. His theory is the poor are part of their own problem as opposed to the well-off. In contrast, we remember Jesus welcomed the poor to the center of the realm of God. When we profess Jesus is Lord, what is the place of money?
