Adult Worship Service continues!
After a break for Holy Week services, the Adult Worship Service returns April 19.
Reverend Jerry Hancock was interviewed by Tony Galli of wkow here in Madison about this ground-breaking new service here at First Cong. In case you missed it, here is the link to the story that aired March 19. It was also featured in an article in the Sunday March 18 edition of the Wisconsin State Journal, and in an article on the on-line publication called The Christian Post. In Tuesday's USA Today, it were mentioned in the states' section, on the bottom half of Section 5A.
After discussion by the Deacons and the Board of Christian Education, the Executive Council earlier this winter approved a request by the Prison Ministry Project to hold an Adult Worship Service. The request from the Prison Ministry Project said this: As part of our commitment to welcome everyone to worship with us no matter where they are on life’s journey, First Congregational UCC would like to invite the Madison Community to attend a worship service for adults in our Chapel on Thursday evenings, February 23 through May 31, at 7:00. We recognize that for a variety of reasons, some people would prefer or should only attend a worship service when children are not present. This service is being offered to meet those needs. Children will not be present in the service or in the church building during those times. We have informed UADC (the child care program which rents space in our building) and Great Beginnings (the infant and toddler daycare program which rents our house at 303 Lathrop) of this worship service, so they do not plan to use the building for any child-related activities the evenings this service will be held. It began on Thurs., Feb. 23, and meets every other Thursday for 10 times (except during Holy Week), then there will be an evaluation of the need for the service. This is also an opportunity for members of this church to come to the chapel, sit in the pews and be part of a ministry of presence to people who may have felt excluded from other worship services.
Our attendance has been increasing each time, and we have had many positive comments about this new service. Now that the Wisconsin State Journal and WKOW -TV Channel 27 have done stories on it, we expect attendance to increase even further.
