Three Days with Nancy Chinn

Event Date:
Tuesday, November 8, 2011 - 10:15am - Tuesday, November 22, 2011 - 11:00am

The last week of October Jessica Taft, Janet Pugh and Eldonna Hazen spent three days with well-known liturgical artist Nancy Chinn. Nancy is especially gifted at helping congregations create liturgical art, specifically in large spaces. In the time spent with Nancy we worked with her on creativity, theory about art and worship, and techniques she has developed that succeed in community art work.

Because we are looking forward to creating liturgical art for the Easter season, we spent some time with themes we discovered in the lectionary. We did not come home with a specific plan for art in our space.  But we have learned a process which, we believe will benefit our congregation for a long time. At first, a few members of the church will work to design our liturgical art. Once designed, we will invite everyone to help create this work.

Our days with Nancy Chinn were full of talk, prayer, creativity and laughter. (Ask us about the proper way to glue paper!) We look forward to the conversations and creating that will unite our community with visual art.

We thank the church for this wonderful opportunity to learn about weaving together liturgy, art, and the congregation.
