Capital Campaign Resolution to be Presented to the Congregation

Event Date:
Tuesday, May 10, 2011 - 10:15am - Tuesday, May 17, 2011 - 1:00pm

To move boldly into the future, to accomplish our mission as a faithful church, and to provide opportunities for growth in our membership and in our witness to the grace and love of God through worship, fellowship, education and outreach, the Executive Council unanimously recommends that we conduct a capital campaign. First and foremost, the purpose of the campaign will be to replace our heating system. Other projects will be added as funds allow. The Council presents the following parameters to the congregation for its approval:

Five year campaign to run from 2011 through 2016, with the primary purpose of replacing our heating system plus other projects as funds allow.
A minimum goal of $1.1 million and a challenge goal of $2.2 million.
Retention of the fundraising consulting firm of Havey and Associates for a flat fee of about $56,000.
Payment of additional administrative expenses of about $15,000.

__________ I vote “YES” to the capital campaign under the parameters set forth above.

By voting “YES” for the campaign, I pledge to support the campaign to the best of my ability with my contributions, prayers and involvement in order to ensure its success for the future of our church.

__________ I vote “NO” to the capital campaign.

The Executive Council discussed each of the work group reports and other ideas in addition to what was in the reports. They are quite excited about what we might be able to accomplish with this campaign. The major element in the minimum goal is, of course, the heating system; but the Council also felt that a few of the less expensive projects could be extremely important. Membership revitalization by inviting members to be involved in small sharing or learning groups holds out much promise. An exciting new mission project could increase people’s interest and involvement. And some small investments in insulation, high efficiency lighting and equipment upgrades could produce benefits for the environment and lower our utility bills.
If we go above our minimum goal and reach toward our challenge goal, all sorts of possibilities open up. We might be able to do some significant expansion of Sunday School rooms and important maintenance to our piano and organ. We might be able to create accessible clergy offices and improve space for meetings and rentals. We might be able to create an accessible front entrance to our sanctuary. We might be able to give to the Wisconsin Conference UCC Capital Campaign and add to our operating reserve fund.
So much is possible. Please come to the congregational meeting on Sunday immediately following worship to discuss and vote on this proposal.
