Christians for Equality in Wisconsin

The Wisconsin State Legislature will be considering an amendment to the state constitution defining marriage as being between a man and a woman and prohibiting recognition of "a legal status identical or substanitally similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals," e.g., domestic partnerships and civil unions. This measure could threaten existing rights and benefits of same-gender couples.

Christians for Equality in Wisconsin

is an interdenominational group of clergy and lay people:

•  working to defeat the ban on civil unions and marriage

•  working to protect all Wisconsin families

Christ's command to

“Love your neighbor as yourself”

leads us to demand fairness and justice for all Wisconsinites.

The constitutional ban would not only deny civil unions and marriage for many of our neighbors, but would also threaten basic legal protections such as: the right to visit loved ones in the hospital; bereavement leave in the case of a death in the family; and shared health and retirement benefits.
