| Forum:
A Ministry with Prisoners
In the Forum after worship on October 17 & 24, Jerry Hancock
will lead presentations on the state of Wisconsin’s prisons and
a possible ministry with prisoners inside of a prison. This is a
program our church might undertake.
Rainbow People will meet
at noon on Sunday, October 10 at Diana and Ron Shaw’s home. (Note:
they have moved!) They are now at 42 Oak Creek Trail which is located
in the Tamarack Condo complex off Westfield Road in the Gammon Road
and Mineral Point area. Main course and beverages will be provided.
Bring a dish to pass. Maps will be available at worship on Sunday
the 10th. Rainbow People is our church’s LGBT group plus friends.
All are welcomed.
Section 10 will meet at 12:30pm, October 12, at Middleton Glen,
6720 Sentry Ave. The program will be Verna Smith talking about Yahara
House.
LET’S SING—
CONGREGATORS!
Congregators will meet October 15, 12 noon, in the Dining Room,
for a “Sing Along with the Tibbetts.”
Bring your own sandwich.
THE
GATHERING
Our annual fall Gathering
classes begin on Wednesday, October 6 , and continue through
October 27 – the four Wednesdays of the month. One class will be
lead by Rev. Diana Shaw, and it will be entitled “Women in Christianity:
from 1000 to 1500AD.” The other class is entitled “Religion,
Electoral Politics and the Media.” A different local media person
will lead this class each week. More information about the classes
will be available in next week's Tower. Put
the Wednesdays of October on your calendar: soup supper at 5:30
and classes from 6:30 – 7:30.

Music
Notes CANTATA
CHOIR
The Cantata Choir will begin rehearsals next Wednesday,
October 13 at 7:30pm.Rehearsals are held in the Chapel and last
approximately 45 minutes. No prior choral experience is necessary,
and the ability to read music is not required.
During worship on December 12, the Cantata Choir will present Howard
Hanson's "Streams in the Desert."Based on the famous passage
from Isaiah 35, "Streams in the Desert" is a fifteen-minute
long work written for choir and piano.Dr. Hanson was for many years
the dean of the Eastman School of Music, and a well-respected composer
of music for choir.

Next rehearsal for the Celebration
Ringers will be Sunday, October 17.
All students in grades 5 through 12 are invited to participate.
Rehearsals are on the first and third Sundays of the month, from
4:30pm until 5:15pm in Room 301 on the third floor. All youth
interested in participating should call Don DeBruin BEFORE the next
rehearsal.
Cherub
Choir will rehearse this Sunday, October
10. All children, from kindergarten through grade 5, are invited
to participate. Rehearsals are held every Sunday morning,
in Room 301, from 11:15 until 11:45.

BAD GIRLS OF THE BIBLE
EVERY WEDNESDAY IN OCTOBER AT NOON,
in the Student Lounge. Bring your bag lunch. (Following lunch
the really bad girls and boys will walk to Babcock Hall for

Madison Area Crop Walk will
be held on Sunday, October 10. Registration begins at 12:45 at First
United Methodist Church. Youth (and adults) are invited to participate!

THE CORN MAZE
excursion for Youth of the church will take place
on Sunday, November 7. (two dates were listed in the Obelisk) Sign-Up
in Youth Room.

A last minute cancellation has opened
up a volunteer opportunity for our church.Habitat for Humanity Volunteers
are needed Saturday, October 16th from 7:45 am-4pm.Sign-up in the
back of the sanctuary.Lunch will be provided. Call Sara Wilcox with

FELLOWSHIP
Second TUESDAY – Dinner Out, October 12, 6pm, at
Yirgalem, the new Ethiopian restaurant at 2623 Monroe St.
Because this is a popular restaurant, please call the church office
on or before Monday, October 11, to reserve.
At Diana’s request, financial gifts sent to the church in
honor of her ministry will be contributed in her name to the Iona
Christian Community.
