Reverend Ann Beaty

Ann Beaty is our interim associate minister. She joined our congregation’s staff in March, 2014. Before moving to Madison, Ann worked at a Methodist church in Austin, Texas for 22 years.

Ann is a 1990 graduate of the Cambler School of Theology at Emory, in Atlanta GA, where she received her Masters of Divinity. She earned her bachelors in Christian Education from Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Several years ago, Ann and her partner Carol were ready for a change and to leave the hot Texas weather. Ann grew up in Ohio, and Carol grew up in Wisconsin and went to school at UW-Madison. Over the years away from Wisconsin, they maintained relationships with friends in the area. So as they contemplated a move for the next phase of their lives, Madison quickly bubbled up to the top of the list.

Ann worked in a Methodist church in Madison, and wanted to learn about the United Church of Christ. When asking around for who to talk with about UCC, Eldonna’s name kept popping up. “I had coffee with Eldonna, which ended up with me applying for the role of the interim associate minister,” Ann says. “I am so glad to find a church home here at the UCC.”

Both Ann and Carol love the change of seasons, including the cold weather!  In a lot of ways, their return to Madison feels like she came home.

If you visit Ann, you’ll always find half and half, apples, baby carrots, diet coke, cheese of some kind in her fridge. When given the choice, Ann would rather lose what’s in her desk top drawer rather than her cell phone. As a child, God looked to her like a loving older grandfather.

Finally, as an adult, her favorite author is Jodi Picoult.  Her books always have an ethical twist and she’s intrigued with the way the characters react and respond to it. Her interest in characters started as a young one, as a child her favorite book was Charlotte’s Web. “I read it a hundred times; I love the sweet relationship between Wilbur the pig and Charlotte the spider.”
