Listen, Sing, Ring, and Drum!

Music at First Congregational UCC

At First Congregational, music is an integral part of worship and our faith community. Our Sanctuary houses a Holtkamp pipe organ and a grand piano built by the Steinway Piano Company during the 1920s. The Church is also home to a five-octave Whitechaple handbell set, the largest in the area.

We encourage our members to share their gifts with the congregation. For individuals interested in participating, First Congregational offers several choirs. All ages and abilities are welcome.

Vocal Choirs

The Chancel Choir enriches worship and is comprised of church members of high school age through adult.

Anyone, reading age and older, is invited to participate in the Sunday Singers. Singers meet before worship to learn a song to share with the congregation during worship. No sign-up is necessary. Just come and make a joyful noise!

Children, kindergarten through sixth grade, gather in the Chapel during Sunday School to learn songs based on current lessons to sing during worship.

For more information about joining a choir, please contact Director of Music Ministry, Heather Yonker

Handbell Choir

Coventry Ringers

Coventry Ringers, an adult handbell group, participates in worship five to six times a year. The group also performs in local handbell festivals.

Drum Choirs

Using the curriculum, World Music Drumming, the drum choir introduces participants to the music of West Africa and the Caribbean; and offers an opportunity to build community.

The Senior Drum choir learns beginning drumming techniques. The choir meets weekly during the day and occasionally plays during Worship.

The Adult Drum choir learns more advanced pieces. The choir meets weekly in the evening and occasionally plays during Worship.

For more information about joining a drum choir, contact Jeff Rabe, Director of Children and Youth Ministry.
