Is Prayer Navel Gazing?

When I was growing up I took piano lessons. Now, don’t get excited and think that I should accompany your next recital. For the number of years I took piano lessons, I really should have more to show for it. But, I wasn’t very diligent in my practicing and once I left home for college, I never continued to play. Due to my lack of contact with the piano over the years, that skill is long gone.

Dead Man Walking Author to Speak at First Cong

In 1982, Sister Helen Prejean became the spiritual advisor to a convicted murderer, Patrick Sonnier, who was on Death Row in Louisiana’s notorious Angola Prison. In the months before his execution, Sr. Helen came to know both the man and the families of the victims of his horrifying crime – the double-murder of two teenagers. Jerry Hancock credits Sr. Helen as a guiding light for the Restorative Justice program of the Prison Ministry Project. Over the years, Sr. Helen has been a leading advocate for the abolishment of the death penalty and for the value of Restorative Justice.

Come Once to Adult Worship

A year ago, as part of our commitment to welcome everyone to worship with us no matter where they are on life's journey, First Congregational started a worship service for adults. We recognize that for a variety of reasons some people would prefer to attend (or should only attend) a worship service when children are not present. This service is being offered to meet those needs. This is a full service of Christian worship, but children are not present in the service or in the church building.
