First Cong Presents Rev. Dr. Carolyn Pressler

In 1985. the General synod of the United Church of Christ accepted a resolution that called on congregations to declare themselves open to and affirming of gay, lesbian and bisexual people in the full life and ministry of the church. In 1990, a committee was formed at First congregational to study the possibility of becoming an Open and Affirming congregation.

Adult Education!

You spoke and we listened! Last year the Reach & Renew Membership Renewal Committee, in coordination with the Adult Education Committee invited the congregation to participate in a survey about what and when the church could offer to entice your attendance. The survey revealed the number one time to offer Adult Ed was on Sunday mornings before worship. So we are excited to share a great line-up of offerings for the fall.

Team Comma

August 2-5, First Congregational had a team of 11 riders (Team Comma) who rode to benefit Aids Network, a non-profit agency serving people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. We also hosted a pit-stop along the route on Friday. Read more for responses from the riders and pit-stop host about their experiences.

Sr. High Mission trip

 

A crew of five First Cong Sr High Youth and two adults spent a week at Camp Courageous near Monticello, IA. Camp Courageous is a non-profit, year-round respite care and recreational facility for individuals of all ages with disabilities. The crew had a busy week building trails, digging trenches, power washing buildings, cleaning, unloading food, and washing windows. The group also had time for some fun activities and community building.

Interim Ministry - Helping Congregations Make Successful Transitions

Interim ministry is the ministry provided to a local church or other ministry setting during a pastoral vacancy. Every change of pastoral leadership presents a unique opportunity for the local congregation to assess its mission, consider its strengths and weaknesses, and search for a new pastoral leader in cooperation with its association and conference.

Welcome to Our Interim Senior Minister

The Interim Minister Search Committee was delighted to recommend Doug Moore to the Executive Council to serve as our Interim Senior Minister, and the Executive Council approved a contract with Doug at its June 18 meeting. Doug brings a wealth of experience to the position.
